Arrive in Charleston , South Carolina , to be met by your tour guide.

| Day 2 |
In the morning we shall catch the ferry out into the beautiful bay that is Charleston harbour and land upon Fort Sumter , the cradle of the Civil War and on which the first guns were fired.

| Day 3 |
Charleston would not be fully visited without a trip to the city's newest and finest treasure, the CSS Hunley, the confederate submarine that earned its place in history as the first underwater vessel to sink a warship. Lost in mysterious circumstances, she lay on the seabed for 150 years, before her salvage and restoration commencement in 2000.
We will then journey to historic Boone Hall plantation for lunch and to view one of the ‘stars' of the Civil War television series ‘North & South'. Overnight Charleston .

| Day 4 |
This morning we drive south to Savannah , Georgia , another of the great
cities of the south. After lunch, we shall visit the 8 th Air Force the museum designed to pay tribute to those brave, young American aviators of the 2 nd World war.

| Day 5 |
Savannah was protected from the Federal navy during the ‘War between the
States' by a series of coastal bastions. We will be visiting Forts Pulaski and McAllister, to see how different technologies succeeded and failed in their resistance.
The afternoon will be left for exploration of the city where fortunes were made in the ‘White Gold of the Cause' and where much of what ‘King Cotton' made possible, was built in the image of its fabulously wealthy traders.

| Day 6 |
Fitzgerald , Georgia , was founded as a community by migrants seeking to
mend the wounds of the Civil War. Here a museum relates to their efforts to bind these wounds forever. In the afternoon, we shall witness the site where Confederate President Jefferson Davis was captured.

| Day 7 |
This morning we visit Andersonville where, we shall see the controversial
monument erected to honour Captain Henry Wirz, commandant of this notorious prison, before paying our respects to the unfortunate prisoners of war who died there. This afternoon, we continue on our journey to the National Civil War Naval
Museum at Port Columbus, to view the remnants of the CSS Jackson and
Experience a combat simulation aboard the SCC Albemarle.

| Day 8 |
We shall briefly tour the works of West Point , to see the last battle site (1865) in
Georgia . Travelling on to Atlanta , we visit the Atlanta Historical Museum , with its fine collection of Civil War artefacts.

| Day 9 |
This is the first of two days we spend, tracing the Great Locomotive Chase, when
Federal soldiers stole the ‘General', a local train that led to an episode that has been immortalised in film and honoured in history. We commence with a visit to
The Locomotive Museum in Kennesaw.

| Day 10 |
On day two of ‘The Chase' we leave Dalton and continue the pursuit, visiting Tunnel Hill, one of the great engineering achievements of its day. We shall see the Clisby-Austin house, used as the HQ for General Sheridan prior to his move against Atlanta . We will visit the spot where the ‘General' ground to halt before arriving in Chattanooga , and the graves of those hijackers who fell foul of military justice.

We visit the battlefield at Chickamauga , where we will spend the morning comprehending the successes and subsequent failures of this field of battle.

| Day 12 |
On our last day, and we shall visit the places in the Atlanta metropolis that
witnessed the demise of those Union soldiers and civilians who paid the ultimate price of failure for the ‘Great Locomotive Chase'.
Some free time to shop and we will finish our tour with a visit to the Atlanta Cyclorama, before proceeding to the airport and our evening flight.
