Civil War Tour's Director/Historian

Peter Gasgoyne-Lockwood's.....interest in the American Civil War developed when as a teenager he read Stephen Crane’s “Red Badge of Courage’. Many years later he was to find himself living in Virginia. Over the next two years he visited all the major battlefields. Concerned with battlefield preservation he designed and published the first in a series of pocket size battlefield maps. Later he was to meet with the publisher of the Civil War Magazine and it was through him that he was invited to write a battlefield guidebook. ‘‘Virginia’s Civil War Battlefields’ was published in 1995. Battlefield tours and lectures followed.

On his return to the UK in 1996, he represented the Civil War Society and led their first tour to the USA from Europe.

He recently stood down as the President of the American Civil War Round Table UK and is a founding member of the Lower Shenandoah Valley Round Table in Virginia.
