The son of a British Naval Officer, Peter spent much of his childhood in various parts of the world. This introduction has lead to a life long interest in the history of countries, their peoples and the different cultures.
After school he joined the British Army and continued to travel serving in many different parts of the world. Where possible his spare time was spent studying battlefield sites and the various campaigns.
On leaving the Army he continued his development of European History by research into the various races that make up the peoples of Great Britain, The Gasgoyne side of his family was a knight in the service of William the Conqueror when he landed in England in 1066.
In the early 1990's an opportunity arose to live in Virginia; this gave Peter the chance to resurrect an interest he had in the American Civil war since childhood, one of his books, a guide to 'Virginia's Civil War Battlefields' was published in 1995.

Liz's background in travel and desire to see the world goes back to her early years when she worked in Spain and Greece, indulging her interests in architecture, local history and fine arts.
Back in the United Kingdom her career then focused on Image and Fashion. After training with First Impressions, she has built-up a successful business in all aspects of image, color, design and presentation.
Liz has been a member of the Federation of Image consultants for over 10 years and recently has become involved with the Costume Society and their lectures covering the history of fashion.
Currently she organizes and hosts 'taylor-made' trips throughout Great Britain for visitors from the United States and the Far east. She has appeared frequently on British Television and Radio and has lectured to many major European institutions. Her interests include reading, theater, gardens and European history.

Tony Daly

Tony Daly was born in Richmond upon Thames, after which Richmond, Virginia was named. A member of the American Civil War Round Table UK, and a former president, he has specialised in the war on the Mississipi. His specific interest has been in Grant's campaign to capture Vicksburg, the 'Gibraltar of the West'.
Tony served with the Royal Yeomanry based in Victoria for a year before spending two years with the 1st Battalion The Wessex Regiment.
He was married in Vicksburg to Laura. As this region is such a special place to him, he looks forward to showing you the history of the south.

Mike and Ann Hannon
Ann & Mike Hannon have been doing things together for over fifty years. Mike served in the Royal Artillery for twenty years before joining an international company at the end of the 1960's. Just over twenty years later, the couple commenced a third career, running holiday tours with consistent historical themes. Offering a unique blend of comfort, commentary and cuisine, they specialise in following the footsteps of the Emperor Napoleon. They visit some of the most beautiful and dramatic places in Europe , dwelling on the great events of his Empire and its place in the history of the world .

Nigel Dunkley MBE MILing

Scotsman, soldier, diplomat and historian, Nigel graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1976, joining the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Soldiering all over the world followed, including covert intelligence gathering duties behind the Iron Curtain in the former East Germany with BRIXMIS during the Cold War, interpreting for Rudolf Hess in Spandau Prison, two years with the US 1 st Cavalry Division on the staff of General Tommy Franks, both in Texas and during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq, for which he was awarded the MBE and US Bronze Star Medal. After command of armoured reconnaissance and tank squadrons he became Chief of Staff of the Royal Armoured Corps Centre at Bovington in Dorset, and a Defence Attaché at the British Embassies in Bonn and Berlin.
Nigel has led history tours for many years to many major battlefields in Europe and beyond. Being fluent in German and Russian, and living in Berlin, he has been able to devote much study to history from the ‘other side,' adding a unique extra aspect to his tours, lectures, and presentations on a wide variety of historical subjects, from Frederick the Great to the Second World War and the Cold War.

Major (Retired) Tim Saunders
MBE. MA.

Military historian, author and battlefield guide, Tim Saunders was educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the seventies. As an officer cadet, he undertook his first battlefield tour of Normandy on a bicycle at the age of eighteen, during leave from Sandhurst , where he was one of a generation of officers who studied under Professor Richard Holmes. His Masters Degree in history was awarded by Exeter University in 1996. He has recently retired from the infantry of the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment.
Military service has taken Tim around the world on exercises and operational deployments. He fought in the Falklands with the Commandos and in the Gulf War as an infantry company commander. In addition, has undertaken five tours of duty in Northern Ireland , as well as the Balkans. Other service includes an exchange posting with the US Rangers. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in 1999 for his military duties and services to military history.
Tim's life long love of the history of warfare has led him into the area of publishing, where he has been writing for Pen and Sword's Battleground Europe series for over eight years, with ten books currently in print. His most recent title is Operation Plunder covering the operations to cross the Rhine . Three other volumes cover aspects of the Market Garden campaign and including 101 st US Airborne Division on ‘Hell's Highway' and the 82 nd Airborne at ‘ Nijmegen ' . He has also published a major work covering the battles of the West Country Regiments on the Somme . He is currently writing on the airborne invasion of Crete and researching the commando operations in Normandy .
In the last year, Tim has lectured at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and has conducted a Royal College of Defence Studies on a battlefield tour.
As a battlefield guide, Tim has been conducting tours since 1984, initially for military units and those having a specialist interest in West Country soldiers and soldiering. However, Tim has wide portfolio of battles, not least, because during his military service he has been able to visit the battlefields of Northern Europe ,
as well as those in more obscure parts of the world not generally visited by the public. Tim is a Council Member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides and is a validation officer for aspirant guides who wish to join the Guild.

Roger Coleman MBE
He was born and educated in Bournemouth and joined The Royal Hampshire Regiment in 1954 as a Private soldier. He served with the Regiment in many places including Germany, West Indies, Malta, Hong Kong, and five operational tours in Northern Ireland. He was selected to be a Drill and Weapons Instructor to Officer Cadets at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst leaving on promotion to Warrant Officer to serve in an armoured infantry regiment, the Devon and Dorset Regiment.
He became Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1 st Battalion The Royal Hampshire Regiment from 1972 to 1976 and was awarded an MBE. Commissioned, he held appointments as Quartermaster and Transport Officer and served as the Administrative Officer in HQ 8 Infantry Brigade, Northern Ireland. He left the Army as a Major (Quartermaster) in 1981, though serving a further six years with 1 st Bn Wessex Regiment, a Territorial Army unit.
His civilian career was first local government, and then the waste industry and finally he ran his own consultancy business.
His interests include the Great War; two of his Uncles were killed and family history, reading and travel. He is still very much involved with his Regiment and has led small groups on battlefield tours and strives to put across the human face of war.
